At the beginning of our cruise around the Pacific we left Los Angeles and after sailing for a week we reached Nuku Hiva in the Marquesas Islands. We were greeted by dancers on the harbour. Soon after a troupe of dancers from Tahiti came on board and travelled and danced with us through the French Polynesian Islands. They left us when we reached Tahiti, Pepeetee the capital.
This is Rangiroa a very strange island. It is an atoll, but a very wide one, so big that it has its own horizon, yet at any point the land is only 300m wide.
Our next French Polynesian Island was Morea. It is volcanic with much evidence of fairly recent volcanic activity. We travelled all over in a land rover type vehicle, visiting view points, pineapple plantations and craft markets.
Then we reached Tahiti itself and the capital Pepeetee. We drove via the coast road into the interior, via a valley into the centre of an extinct volcano. Finally to market and more shopping.

The last Polynesian island was Bora Bora, probably the prettiest of all. The seascapes were amazing, wonderful range of blues. The ride around the island was probably the most exciting, with a backward approach to one spectacular viewpoint.
