Geoff suggested the following basic settings which may be of value to the members of the group:
Basic settings
100 ISO Aperture priority White balance“cloudy”
1. What Zoom do I want?
Wide – to make background objects smaller (or include more)
Narrow – to make background objects larger (or include less)
2. What aperture do I need?
Large – separate subject from background?
Small – depth of field?
3. What shutter speed does that give me?
Is it fast enough to stop camera shake?
Is it fast enough to stop subject movement?
If not – increase ISO or open aperture
4. Check White balance – is “cloudy” OK?
If not choose another.
5. Where do I focus? Depends on aperture
Foreground subject – on subject
General subject – “1/3 in”
6. Check “blinkies”
If present, reduce exposure, reshoot
Check “blinkies” again
The Photo Group meets monthly at Mount Pleasant on the fourth Monday from 2.00-4.00.
It is led by Geoff Meadowcroft, a retired professional photographer.
Here is useful guidance and information from the U3A for all digital photographers. It certainly looks good to me:

Topics range from basic camera tips to advanced techniques. (Thank you Brian Spilsbury – U3A Australia).
